  • If the East Webster fast-pitch softball team wants to keep playing, the Lady Wolverines must beat visiting Hatley by at least eight runs on Thursday. The last region game of the season was scheduled for last Friday, but bad weather forced it to be moved back almost a week. With the playoffs set to start on Friday, the Lady Wolverines will need to find a way to beat Hatley by the necessary runs, then regroup for a run through the MHSAA Class 2A State playoffs. If the Lady Wolverines can beat Hatley at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, then they would host Calhoun City in the first round of the MHSAA Class 2A State Playoffs on Friday. The second and third games of the playoff series would be at Calhoun City. BASEBALL FALLS TO STARKVILLE The Wolverines dropped a 20-9 decision to Starkville last Thursday in the final game of the 2010 season, but veteran head coach Wes Johnson said he sees good things ahead for the program. "We only lose three seniors and we have a lot of kids returning," Johnson said. "We are just looking forward to the summer and next year." The Wolverines, which finished the year at 12-9-2, held an 8-7 lead over Starkville before the Yellow Jackets scored four runs in the fourth and six in the fifth to take control of the game.
