Rain played havoc with a host of area softball last week, but Eupora did manage to get in one contest — and it was a good one for the Lady Eagles.
Playing at Class 4A power Houston, Eupora erupted for 12 runs in the top of the seventh inning to bust open a tight contest and roll to a 14-1 win.
The victory lifted the Lady Eagles to 4-0 on the season. All of their other contests last week were rained out.
This week, Eupora was slated to take a few days off for Spring Break before heading to South Pontotoc on Saturday for tournament action. Next week, the Lady Eagles are slated to go to Winona on Tuesday (March 21), host Bruce on Thursday (March 23) and entertain Calhoun City on Friday (March 24).
Last Tuesday at Houston, Eupora scored twice in the top of the first inning and neither team scored again until the seventh. But while the Lady Eagles went off for 12 runs, the Lady Hilltoppers could manage only one.
Eupora cranked out 15 base hits in the win, led by three hits apiece from Savannah Kilpatrick, Marlee Ray and Delta Newman.
Kilpatrick had a pair of doubles and three runs scored, Ray had a double and a pair of runs and Newman had a double and five RBIs. Haley Farley homered, scored three times and drove in three runs; Christina Boren was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored; Kylie Richardson singled and drove in a pair of runs; and Kylar Cain and Haylee McCrory both had a base hit apiece.
Newman earned the pitching win in the circle, tossing 5.1 innings and striking out three. Sidney Bailey finished up for the Lady Eagles.
