A new season has arrived for the baseball and softball teams at East Webster and Eupora high schools.
Like most teams across the state, all four squads took part in some sort of jamboree action last weekend, and all four are set to begin a new campaign this weekend.
The first to hit the field will be the East Webster baseball team. Coach Wes Johnson’s bunch will entertain Starkville Academy Friday afternoon in a contest which has been moved up to 4 p.m., in an effort not to conflict with the school’s home game in the state basketball playoffs Friday night.
The Wolverines will then host French Camp Academy Saturday at 1:30.
Next week, East Webster has a busy week of baseball: The Wolverines are at South Pontotoc on Monday (Feb. 27), take on Mooreville at Amory on Tuesday (Feb. 28), host Starkville Friday (March 3) and then battle both Nanih Waiya and Choctaw County in Ackerman on Saturday (March 4).
Eupora’s baseball team is slated to open its 2017 season Saturday in the Choctaw County Classic, with action beginning at 10:30 a.m.
The Eagles’ tentative schedule has them hosting Winston Academy on Tuesday (Feb. 28) and entertaining Noxapater on Saturday (March 4).
Both Webster County softball teams are in tournament action on Saturday.
East Webster’s Lady Wolverines are in the Winona Classic. They’ll go to Ethel on Tuesday (Feb. 28) and to Houston on Thursday (March 2) before their scheduled home opener against Noxapater on Friday, March 3. Junior-varsity action is set for 4:30 p.m., that day, with the varsity game to follow.
Eupora’s softball team, meanwhile, will go to the Houston Classic on Saturday for its first action of the new season.
The Lady Eagles’ home opener is set for Tuesday (Feb. 28), when they host Choctaw County. Junior-varsity action begins at 5, with the varsity to follow. Also next week, Eupora is scheduled to visit Hatley on Friday (March 3).
