Mathiston Friends

of the Library

A meeting will be held every month on the third Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Mathiston Public Library to organize a Friends of the Library. The next meeting is Feb. 16.

The purpose of FOL is to organize and support activities and functioning of Mathiston Library. This includes raising funds by bake sales, book sales and other methods; establishing a children’s program; promoting speakers and authors of interest to community; assisting the librarian as needed and acting as ambassadors of the library.

Dues are $10 a year for individual and $15 a year for family. You may inquire at the library for further information. Please come and be a part of FOL and help make our library one of the best.

Master Gardener

The Webster County Extension Office is offering a 40-hour course to become a Master Gardener.

You would pay a one-time fee of $90 to participate. The class meets on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, 1-5 p.m., beginning Feb. 28 and ending April 4.

Deadline for registration and fee is Feb. 17. To register, come to the Webster County Extension Office. For any questions, please call 258-3971.

‘Coffee with

a Deputy’

“Coffee with a Deputy” is a new initiative by the Webster County Sheriff’s Department to discuss issues in the surrounding communities and to involve the community. This open forum can be used for basically anything the community has in mind to talk about.

Remaining meetings are at 9 a.m. on:

  • Feb. 15 at Mantee Baptist Church, 994 Main St.
  • Feb. 16 at Walthall Quick Stop, corner of highways 9 and 50.
  • Feb. 20 at Sugarland Donuts, 47 Gwenn Ray Drive in Eupora next to Piggly Wiggly.

Coffee will be provided by the host at each discussion. If you would be interested in hosting a “Coffee with a Deputy” contact the Sheriff’s Department at 258-7701 and speak with Shay Holmes or Investigator Landon Griffin to set up a date.

Extension offering

technology classes

The Webster County Extension Office is offering four technology classes. All classes will be held at the Extension Office in Eupora and are $5 each. Seating is limited so please call our office at 258-3971 to register.

Feb. 22 — Computer Basics: 10 a.m.-noon. This computer class will teach participants the very basic commands of your computer.

Intro to Microsoft Word and Graphics in Word: 1-3 p.m. You will learn how to create a document, letter, etc. and how to add graphics to what you create.

Feb. 23 — EXCEL: 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Learn how to create an Excel spreadsheet. Many of you have asked for this so here it is.

Photoshop: 5:30-8:30 p.m. Learn to upload your photos to your computer and edit them.

Baseball/softball/buddy ball/T-ball signup for ages 3-15 ends Feb. 28 at Eupora City Hall.

20th Century

salad luncheon

The GFWC/MFWC Eupora 20th Century Club will have a salad luncheon March 7 at the Eupora First Baptist Church Family Life Center.

Salads are carryouts only and are to picked up between 11 a.m. till 1 p.m. The cost is $8 per salad plate, which consist of three specialty salads plus a dessert salad. Pre-orders only.

The deadline for ordering plates is March 3. Ticket(s) for salad luncheon plates are available from any 20th Century Club member.

Proceeds from the salad luncheon club fundraiser will be used to support community projects sponsored by the GFWC/MFWC Eupora 20th Century Club.

Municipal

qualifying deadline

The qualifying period for municipal elections is underway for people interested in vying for local offices of mayor and boards of aldermen.

The qualifying deadline at city clerks’ offices is 5 p.m. March 3. Primaries for mayor and aldermen will be May 2 and runoffs are set for May 16. The general elections will be June 6.

Library storytime

Storytime at Webster County Library in Eupora is each Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Pat Ray entertains the children with songs, stories and crafts. Children ages 2-5 are invited to attend.

Maben Public

Library storytime

Maben Public Library has storytime every Friday at 10 a.m. featuring many fun activities along with a story.

AA meetings

Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 5 p.m. at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora’s Education Conference Room.

NA meetings

Narcotics Anonymous meetings are the second, fourth and fifth Mondays at 7 p.m. at the Choctaw County Library in Ackerman. Call 662-552-0966 for details.

Longview Opry

Enjoy music, refreshments and fun at the Longview Opry on Highway 12 in Longview every Saturday at 7 p.m. Talent is welcome. Admission is free.
