GRENADA — The Grenada County Sheriff’s Department still hasn’t determined what exactly happened to a woman whose car drove off the Grenada Lake levee last month.

The woman, identified by Grenada County Sheriff Alton Strider as Brittney L. Reed Fiebig, 30, of Mathiston, was pronounced dead at the scene of the levee around 10 p.m. Sept. 24.

“This was a single-car accident, and it’s hard to determine what happened out there,” Strider said. “There were no witnesses at all, and that makes it even tougher.”

Strider said the sheriff’s department accident report showed that Fiebig’s vehicle struck the right-side guardrail and then struck the left guardrail.

“When the vehicle struck that left guardrail, her vehicle traveled over it and down the levee,” Strider said. “This happened in that curve up there.”

Strider said Fiebig was not wearing her seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. A deputy said in the accident report that Fiebig was found about 60 feet from her 2000 Honda Civic.

“Right now we don’t know what caused that accident, but we’re still investigating this,” Strider said.

Two Grenada Lake park rangers were the first on the scene and the Tie Plant Volunteer Fire Department also responded.

Services were Saturday at Mathiston First Baptist Church with burial in Sapa Cemetery under the direction of Oliver Funeral Home.
