DECATUR — The Holmes Community College Bulldogs racked up nearly 600 yards of total offense here Thursday night in a 48-40 win over the East Central Community College Warriors in the season opener for both schools.

Sophomore quarterback Dejerric Bryant had a huge night for the Bulldogs accounting for four touchdowns, three in the air and one on the ground.
East Central jumped out to a 7-0 lead with 12:17 left in the first quarter before the Bulldogs answered with a 30-yard touchdown pass from Bryant to D.J. Montgomery. Caleb Shelly’s PAT was no good giving East Central the 7-6 lead.
Holmes got another score early in the second quarter when Cameryn Brent scored from two yards out with 14:22 left. The extra point was no good, and Holmes led 12-7. Both teams remained scoreless the remainder of the first half.
The Warriors took advantage of a Bulldog fumble early in the second half and raced it in for the score. The extra point was good, and East Central went up 14-12. Bryant then called his own name and raced in from 65 yards out. Shelly’s PAT was good giving the Bulldogs the lead back at 19-14 with 10:46 left in the third.
East Central answered with 8:54 to play in the third on another touchdown. The extra point was good putting East Central up 21-19, which was their last lead of the game. The Bulldogs then added another long score as Bryant connected with Antavius Moody from 65 yards out. Shelly was again true making it 26-21 Holmes with 7:06 left in the third.
Treviante McDaniel then got on the board for the Bulldogs with 2:31 left in the third when he raced in from two yards out. The extra point was good giving Holmes a 33-21 lead. The Warriors responded quickly on a touchdown with 1:11 left in the third to make the score 33-27 after a two-point try was no good.
Bryant then connected with Moody for a score, this time from 70 yards out with 46 seconds left in the third quarter. Shelly’s extra point made the score 40-27. Holmes’ final score of the game came with 6:35 left in the fourth quarter when Matt Fuller scored from a yard out. Fuller added the two-point conversion to put Holmes up 48-27.
East Central scored two late touchdowns making an extra point and missing another to end the scoring at 48-40.
Bryant and Moody each finished with 67 yards rushing. Bryant carried the ball 11 times while Moody carried it seven. Bryant was 9-of-10 passing for 292 yards and three touchdowns. Moody had three receptions for 147 yards while Montgomery had three catches for 96 yards and a touchdown.
Qmond Woods had eight tackles for the Bulldogs while Buddy Benson added seven.
