Local Punt, Pass, Kick winners announced

By Jane Collins, Secretary
Maben Lions Club

The Maben Lions Club put on the NFL Punt, Pass and Kick contest on Sept. 12. Sixteen youngsters, mostly from East Webster Elementary and High schools, participated in the event on the East Webster main football field.

The winners received blue T-shirt shirts and a blue ribbon; second place-winners received red T-shirts and ribbons; and third-place winners received white T-shirts and ribbons.

Each T-shirt had a “15” on the front to indicate that this was the 2015 contest. The back of each shirt displays a list of the 22 financial sponsors: Trace-Way Restaurant, Bank of Kilmichael, Welch Funeral Home, B&D Awards, Mathiston/Eupora Cleaners, Evergreen Ag, Maben Auto Parts, Palmer Properties, Los Encinos Grill-Maben, Doss Electric, Farm Bureau-Webster County, Double J Timber, Dewberry Sawmill, Hudspeth Wood Products, Greer Labs Inc., Mitchell Gordon Appraiser, Jamie’s Body Shop, FJH Realty Land & Timber, Oswalt’s Building Materials, Palmer Service Center, Springer’s Dry Goods and anonymous friends.
Maben/Mathiston area merchants are faithful, enthusiastic supporters of Punt, Pass and Kick, and they are all greatly appreciated by participants and Maben Lions Club.

Punt, Pass and Kick is an excellent opportunity for girls, as well as boys, to compete and enjoy notable success. It is hoped that many more girls will participate in the competition next year.

The Sectional competition for this area is typically held in Tupelo in October. Age-group champions at this level will have their scores compared to other sectional winners from their respective age groups. The top four first-place winners in the boys’ and girls’ age groups among all sectional winners advance to the Team Championships for a total of 40 participants who will attend each Team Championship.

All NFL cities will host a team championship in their facilities during pregame or halftime of NFL games in November and December. Boys’ and girls’ team champions will be crowned in each age group. Winners from this area will compete in New Orleans at a Saints game.
