Back before the rain, ice, sleet, snow and spring holidays, the Maben Home and Garden Club sponsored a litter poster contest at East Webster Elementary School, which started Feb. 16 and lasted until Feb. 27. The theme was “Put Trash in its Place.”
The contest was geared for the second-grade classes, of which, there were three homerooms with 71 children. The homeroom teachers were Jodi Brand, Debbie Knight and Becky Card.
Each child received an instruction sheet telling of the awards, the requirements and the judging.
After nearly a month of various delays, the Maben Home and Garden Club was proud to announce the winners on March 20.
In Brand’s homeroom: Kallee Vaughn-first place, Hardy Fason-second place, David Creeley-third place, and Levi Elkins and Allie Neal-honorable mention.
In Knight’s homeroom: Cooper Stidham-first place, Lexi Upchurch-second place, Kyleigh Fiebig-third place, and Sawyer Bennet and Summer Massey-honorable mention.
In Card’s homeroom: Cheyenne Lott-first place, Halli Griffin-second place, Brelyn Blessike-third place, and Matthew Maddox and Kinley Hillhouse-honorable mention.
All winners received certificates from the MHGC Litter Committee. The first-place winners (two) each won a $25 gift card; second-place winners (two) each won a $15 gift card; third-place winners (two) each won a $10 gift card, and each honorable mention winner (six) won a $5 card.
Pictures were taken of the groups and thus ended the first poster contest sponsored by the MHGC in many years. Hopefully, this will be a yearly event.
