Nine Eupora High School athletes will compete in the MHSAA Class 2A North State Powerlifting Meet at Calhoun City High School on Saturday, March 7.

Eight of the nine finished first in the regional meet held at CCHS, while the other took second. The top three powerlifters in each weight class in the North State meet will advance to the state championships at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson on April 18.

The powerlifters, who are broken up by weight class, compete in three disciplines — bench press, dead lift, and squat — with their best lift of three attempts being combined for their total.

Eupora’s Victor Goldman is ranked No. 1 in the 181-pound class going into the North State meet, while Markesz Hodges is second in the 148-pound class.

Here are the other Eupora lifters who qualified for the North State Meet, their ranking heading into the meet, and their weight classification: Travon McMillian, fourth, 114-pound class; Camron Townsend, third, 132-pound class; Phillip Weeks, third, 165-pound class; Edwin Herard, fifth, 165-pound class; Justin Lewis, fourth, 198-pound class; Jackson Edwards, fourth, 242-pound class; and Carson Gunn, fourth, 275-pound class.
