Lee Ann Flemming will be the guest speaker at the Sept. 8 meeting of Friends of the Webster County Public Library.
Monday’s meeting begins at 11:30 a.m. with lunch, which will be provided for a nominal cost.
Flemming grew up in Lexington and graduated from Central Holmes Academy, She attended both Mississippi State and Delta State University, where she majored in home economics and elementary education.
She has been married to Steve Flemming of Cruger for the past 35 years. They have one son, Steven; a daughter-in-law, Stephanie; and one granddaughter, Leila Rose. They reside in Cruger.
Flemming is a second-grade teacher at Benton Academy, where her husband serves as headmaster of the school.
She writes a weekly food column for The Greenwood Commonwealth and is a contributor to the paper’s quarterly magazine publication Leflore Illustrated. Flemming writes a biweekly column for The Leland Progress and weekly for The Yazoo Herald. She also pens a monthly article for Life in the Delta magazine.
Flemming also enjoys freelance writing for other newspapers and magazines throughout the South. She has written and published her own cookbook, titled “Recipes and Remembrances” that includes some of her favorite articles and recipes from her first 100 articles.
Flemming is also a member of the Mississippi Pageant Judges Association, and enjoys emceeing and judging pageants. She is a member of Cruger Independent Methodist Church, where she serves as the church organist.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family and reading (mostly food magazines and cookbooks).
Flemming served as food stylist for the movie “The Help” and is the proud baker of Minny’s Chocolate Pie.
“I never knew a pie could change your life, but Minny’s pie has certainly changed mine,” she said. “Serving as food stylist for ‘The Help’ has opened doors and given me more opportunities than I could ever have dreamed of when I accepted the job several years ago.
“Not only have I been able to increase the newspapers and magazines I write for, I have also been interviewed by Glamour, Food and Wine, and A Taste of the South magazines.
“Traveling for Disney Studios to promote the release of the DVD of the movie was such a treat. The television appearances and newspaper and magazine articles were experiences that I will never forget.
”Just about the time I think things will slow down, the phone rings for another article, cooking demonstration or speaking engagement. No rest for the weary!”
