Bonnie Ferguson McMullen, 84, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014 at North Mississippi Mecical Center after a brief and sudden illness.
Mrs. McMullen was born January 27, 1930 in Tate County, Ms. She graduated in 3 years as Valedictorian from Northwest Mississippi College through a special high school honors program. She received a B.S. degree from Memphis State University and a Master’s degree in English and History from Mississippi State University. She attained further certification in Elementary Education.
She met James William McMullen while she was a student at Northwest after he returned from service in the Pacific in WWII. They were married for 66 years.
Mrs. McMullen was an educator in Webster County for more than 25 years. She loved each and every student. She was active in the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed traveling all over the world but loved her life in Eupora playing bridge with friends and staying active in all the activities at First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband; James William McMullen, 2 daughters; Ann Morrison and Dr. Nancy Covington, 3 grandchildren; Katherine (Dr. Paul) Allison, Paul Covington and Alex Covington. She was blessed to welcome her first great granddaughter; Charlotte Katherine Allison 4 months ago. She is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Leslie and Louvenia Ferguson, her sister Hulene Perry and her brother, Correll Ferguson and one nephew Michael Perry.
Funeral Services were held 11:00AM Thursday July 3rd. at Eupora First Baptist Church. Visitation was 5:30PM until 8:00PM Wednesday July 2nd. at the funeral home and Thursday July 3rd. at the First Baptist Church, 9:30AM until 11:00AM. The service was officiated by Rev. Travis Gray.
Pallbearers were Clayton Allen, Ted Wilson, Lloyd Young, Stan Blaylock, Bill Yates and Charlie Shaw. Music was provided by Jo Faulkenberry, Terry and Lydia Cain, and Amy Stephens.
A graveside service was held at 3:30PM Thursday July 3rd. at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Independence, Ms. in Tate County, where she was born. She was buried close to her mother, father, brother and her family following her request. Memorials may be made in her honor to the First Baptist Church in Eupora, Ms.
