From Staff Reports
Grand jurors empaneled last month have issued a report of their investigations.
The new grand jury was empaneled June 17 at the Choctaw County Courthouse in Ackerman, which has been designated as the alternate location for conducting court proceedings because of last year’s courthouse fire in Walthall.
The report does not indicate that any indictments were returned; however, the previous grand jury returned 39 true bills recorded on 24 indictments when recalled May 20.
The jurors who were empaneled June 17 inspected the Webster County Health Department, County Office Building and the jail, and reported various findings for each building.
Regarding the Webster County Courthouse, they wrote: “We, the June 2014 Webster County Grand Jury, would encourage the Webster County Board of Supervisors to move forward with a new Webster County Courthouse as soon as possible. While we understand that the current accommodations are intended to be temporary, they make it difficult for those involved to function in an orderly and efficient manner.”
