Investigators are calling a fatal shooting that occurred Saturday night in Clarkson an act of self-defense.
Sheriff Tim Mitchell said Tuesday that the Webster County Sheriff’s Department and Mississippi Bureau of Investigation have ruled the shooting death of Aubrey Joseph Myers self-defense.
Myers, 29, died of gunshot wounds in the emergency room at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville after being taken there by ambulance, Webster County Coroner Steve Wells said.
Mitchell said Myers was shot with a .22-caliber pistol at a residence at 8096 Clarkson Road. The shooting was reported to Webster 911 at 8:08 p.m. Saturday, with deputies and NMMC-Eupora Emergency Medical Services responding.
Myers was shot during an apparent dispute with his father, according to Mitchell and Wells. The case was turned over to the MBI and an autopsy was completed Monday afternoon in Jackson.
Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora is handling arrangements for Myers.
