The Webster Progress-Times
All East Webster head football coach Doug Wilson needs to know about his team’s 2014 schedule is that it’s just like the one he had last year. That means it’s tough, tough, tough.
While there are certainly some challenges over the first six weeks of the schedule, it is the last four games — all Region 4-2A contests — that pack most of the punch. Last season the Wolverines went 6-0 in non-region contests, but were winless in all four league contests. Included among those were tough 32-24 and 7-3 losses to Okolona and Bruce respectively.
Region 4-2A — which features EW, Okolona, Bruce, Calhoun City and Eupora — is expected to be packed with strong teams once again this year.
EW is set to open the season on the road against Vardaman on Aug. 22, followed by a home contest against traditional MHSAA Class 1A power Noxapater on Aug. 29.
September has the Wolverines visiting Nettelton on the 5th, before hosting Houston (12th), Caledonia (19th), and J.Z. George (26th), to close out the non-league slate.
East Webster will open Region 4-2A play on Oct. 3 by hosting Okolona. It is the only league home game for the Wolverines this season. EW then visits Calhoun City on Oct. 10, Bruce on Oct. 17 and closes out the regular season by visiting rival Eupora on Oct. 31.
