John 1:1: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
Genesis 1:26-27: “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27) “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”
So, what is the image of God? It is not how tall he is, how heavy he is, not the color of his eyes or hair. Rather, it first is love, righteousness, holiness, purity, perfection. Adam was created with all these qualities, for God had said — “in our likeness.” Adam’s surroundings were perfect. He had no needs,. He was to obey God. But sadly, Adam disobeyed God. He sinned and God put a curse on him. God cursed the ground and turned them out of the garden, locked the gate with a flaming sword.
I am sure that this shook up Adam, to be driven out of his palace into the thorns and thistles and having to work for his food. Disobedience and sin becomes worse and worse, so bad that it made God sick in heart and he said, “I will destroy man whom I have made.”
Only Noah and family was saved, with a seed of all his creation. When the ark was ready, God shook the earth and opened all the water fountains of the deep, destroying all living off the earth. God commanded Noah to replenish the earth.
Abram came on the scene and God chose him to build a nation of people through his seed. Abram believed and obeyed God, and God changed his name to Abraham, and said, “Walk before me and be perfect.”
God chose Abraham’s son Israel to build a nation of people like himself. Then he chose Isaac’s son Jacob to be the father of his chosen people. God changed Jacob’s name to Israel: Israel had 12 sons. God said, “You will have no other gods before you. You will not serve other gods. I am your God.”
God had made a covenant with Abraham and passed it on down to Isaac, Jacob and Israel. Israel wanted to be like their neighbors, so they went into idolatry, serving strange gods. God called them back to himself and they would come back to him and then leave again. They would promise to serve God alone but soon would go back to strange gods.
They would not stay faithful to Jehovah. They broke God and Abraham’s covenant by departing from him. God said, “I am married to you — you are my wife and you are unfaithful to me.” God finally divorced Israel.
Jeremiah 3:7-8: — “And I said after she had done all these things, Turn thou unto me. But she returned not. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it.
8) “And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.”
Isaiah 50:1 _” Thus saith the Lord, Where is the bill of your mother’s divorcement, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away.”
God is a patient, loving, longsuffering God, but his patience does have an end. If you are professed Christian and are walking in sin, according to the course of this world, you are treading on dangerous ground. God is the same yesterday, today and forever.
Hosea 1:6: “ And she (Gomer) conceived again, and bare a daughter. And God said unto him, Call her name Loruhamah: for I will no more have mercy upon the house of Israel; but I will utterly take them away.”
Israel broke her bond with God. America is being shaken to the very foundations she was built upon. All these things are come because of past and present leadership. God is still in control. Jesus Christ is the only way out and back to God the Father.
“When the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do? … I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord.”
God will have a holy people — will you be one of them? He is calling; can you hear him? Amen (to be continued).
