The Eupora High School softball team took wins over Ethel and Winona in preparation to opening the MHSAA Class 2A Fast-Pitch Softball Playoffs on Friday.
EHS will play host to Potts Camp on Friday at 5 p.m., before hitting the road for the second game of the best-of-three series at 11 a.m. on Saturday. If needed, the third game will also be played at Potts Camp on Saturday.
Eupora erupted for eight runs in the top of the second inning and then rolled to an 18-7 win over Ethel last Thursday.
Marlee Ray had four hits to lead Eupora in the win over Ethel, while Courtney Hatcher picked up three hits of her own. Delta Newman drove in four runs for the winners, while Savannah Kilpatrick had three RBIs. Newman was also the winning pitcher, striking out four batters in the process.
The 13-9 Lady Eagles scored in the top of the eighth inning to take a 5-4 win over Winona on Friday. Winona led 2-0 before Eupora hit for three in the third to go up 3-2. After EHS made it 4-2 in the top of the seventh, Winona tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the inning.
Ray and Kilpatrick had two hits each for Eupora in the game, while Hatcher and Kilpatrick each had an RBI.
