City sales tax collections up

Eupora saw a 5.7 percent increase in sales tax collections during February.
The city reported $32,891 in sales tax for February, compared to $31,113 for the same month in 2013. Since the state fiscal year began July 1, collections total $312,216 in Eupora, up $1,131 from the same period a year earlier.
Mathiston’s collections of $12,842 in February were down about 13 percent from the $14,760 collected the same month in 2013. State fiscal year-to-date collections are $134,678, down 1.5 percent from that period in 2013.
The Mississippi Department of Revenue collects 81.5 percent of the 7 percent sales tax from municipalities and distributes the remaining 18.5 percent back to the municipalities over a three-month cycle.
These figures reflect other municipal sales taxes collected on February sales with 2013 figures in parentheses:

  • Maben: $6,748 ($5,944).
  • Mantee: $2,436 ($2,442).
  • Walthall: $1,866 ($1,571).
