Five Eupora High School competitors had strong performances in the MHSAA Class 2A State Powerlifting Meet at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson on Saturday.
Tamoris Draine and Jarques McBride each finished second in their respective weight classes, while three other competitors finished sixth or better.
“I think they did really well,” EHS powerlifting coach Chad White of his five competitors. “They worked hard and were very prepared.”
Draine posted a squat of 550 pounds, a bench press of 300 pounds, and a dead lift of 540 pounds for a total weight of 1,390 pounds to finish second in the 198-pound weight class by just five pounds. McBride took second in the 275-pound class with a total of 1,275 pounds. He lifted 510 in the squat, 305 in the bench and 460 in the dead lift. Both Draine and McBride are seniors.
Kris Kent took fourth in the 308-pound division with a 440-pound squat, a 290-pound bench and a 405-pound dead lift for a total of 1,135. Eighth grader Phillip Weeks totaled 835 pounds to take fifth in the 165-pound class. He had a squat of 200, a bench of 210 and a dead lift of 325.
Sophomore Victor Goldman was sixth in the 181-pound class as he squatted 415, benched 250 and dead lifted 465 for a total of 1,130 pounds.
