FFA team places 1st in contest

From School Reports

Colton Harrison, Tyler Ray, Blake Whitehurst and Levi Womack won first place in the Ag Technology and Mechanical Systems Senior Division at the FFA District Contest in Leake County on March 1.

The competition requiredthe students to individually complete a 50-question written exam and to solve 10 problem scenarios using hands-on techniques.

Competition topics included farm equipment maintenance, land and acreage determination and usage, electrical and plumbing technology, and welding. Although each student was scored individually, their scores were combined for the team score.

The team will compete in the state FFA competition at Mississippi State University on April 4. This same team of students placed second in the welding division competition at the Big Black Federation Contest at Choctaw County Career and Technology Center in Ackerman on Feb. 21.

All four young men are students in Paul Orr’s Ag Power and Machinery program at the Webster County Career and Technology Center.
