Eupora saw a negligible decrease in sales tax collections during December.
The city reported $36,164 in sales tax for December, compared to $36,347 for the same month in 2012. Since the state fiscal year began July 1, Eupora has seen about a 0.25 percent decrease in sales tax, or $618, compared to the same period a year earlier.
Mathiston’s collections of $14,694 in December were down about 9 percent, or $1,453, from the $16,147 collected the same month in 2012. State fiscal year-to-date collections are $106,940, down $1,461 from 2012.
The Mississippi Department of Revenue collects 81.5 percent of the 7 percent sales tax from municipalities and distributes the remaining 18.5 percent back to the municipalities over a three-month cycle.
