Miles hold family event

Submitted by C.J. Johnson

On January 9, 2014 all seven of the Miles first cousins, grandchildren of Jasper Alford Winsted Miles and his wife Alma Mattie King, gathered in Weir to share a meal, relive the old times, and catch up on the latest family news.

At least three of these cousins, Faye Coleman, John Miles Johnson, and Bobbye Curtis, were born in the home of their Miles grandparents. This is the same residence where they met this year for their annual “Cousins Luncheon.”

One of the topics of discussion was the on-going genealogy work on the Miles line. The daughter of John M. Johnson brought the cousins up-to-date on the latest research, and brought a photograph of the cousins from several years ago, as well as photographs from the 1930s of their Miles parents and grandparents.

Their grandparents, J. A. W. and Alma M. King Miles were reared in this general area (Choctaw, Montgomery, and Webster Counties.) J. A. W. Miles was the son of Wiley Miles and Sarah Jane D. A. Reid. Joshua Miles and his wife Elizabeth Hale were the parents of Wiley Miles.

Alma Mattie King was the daughter of John William King and his wife Martha Bythena Roberts. Young H. M. King and wife Mariah Louise Pratt were the parents of John W. King.
