Where did you leave him; when did you miss him?

Luke 2:41-51

These portions of scripture tell us of the obedience of Joseph and Mary to attend the Feast of Passover.

It was a time when meals were prepared, and activities according to the Jewish culture were observed. We too as Christians go to church every Sunday; we enjoy the meals of worship, the song praise, prayer and the preached word. We attend with our family and friends, but as with Joseph and Mary we leave for home without realizing that we have left Jesus behind.

So the question is how long does it take before we realize that he is not with us? Perhaps it was when you could no longer feel his presence. Perhaps it was when you felt a void that nothing else could fill. Maybe you looked to drugs, alcohol or even an alternate lifestyle but you find that he is not there. It was only after a day’s journey that Mary and Joseph missed him and didn’t find him that they return to Jerusalem and found him in the temple.

So, when we have missed his presence and have a void that nothing else can fill, we too need to return to the House of God of your choice. There we will find him in Sunday school and the preached word. So surprise yourself, and your family, this Sunday and tell them “let’s go to the House Of God.”

And after you are there open your mind and heart and let him in. For scripture says “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with me (Revelation 3:20).” Will you let him in?
