By the Rev. J.B. Rowe
Scripture: Isaiah 55:1-3a — “Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
“Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labor for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.
“Incline your ear, and come unto me.”
Several things here — first of all, you need to be thirsty for the things of God. I do not see/know a lot of people that are hungry for spiritual things. They want more and more of the earthly things. Jesus said in these last days — “because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.”
Second, he said come to the waters (refers to the life-giving spirit of Jesus Christ). “Without money, come buy and eat, buy wine (refers to the Spirit) which is given us, and milk, which is the fatness of God, without price.”
You see, Jesus paid for all of this with his blood. Salvation is free upon faith and repentance. The economy is such that a lot of people do not have a lot of money and it will get worse. America is in deep trouble. If you believe that “perilous times” are here, it is time to seek God.
2 Chronicles 7:14: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
This is Jesus speaking — the Father is in heaven. Jesus paid for our sin debt (verse 14).
15) “Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.”
God is listening for our prayer of repentance from the “top down.” It is time to seek the Lord in truth. All the truth is not given out.
“God is not a man, that he should lie; nor a son of man, that he should repent (Numbers 23:19).”
God will do what he said. I wonder if our leadership is challenging God? I can find only one man in the Bible that challenges God. In Exodus 32 Israel made the golden calf. God was angry and said to Moses, “I will kill them all and make a nation out of you.”
Moses said (verse 32), “Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin —; and if not, blot me I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.”
Jesus said in Matthew 6:33, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things (the things of the world that you seek after, with God’s money) shall be added unto you.”
It is time to seek the Lord! A thing happened in Judah, to God’s people, that is happening in America today.
Ten of the 12 tribes separated. The tribes were called Israel. Two tribes called Judah. They did not get along well. Israel persuaded Judah to go to war against Syria, their enemy. In the battle, Israel’s king was killed. Judah’s king,
Jehoshaphat, returned home to Jerusalem. Jehu, son of the seer, met him and said unto him, “Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that hate the Lord? therefore is wrath upon thee from before the Lord? (2 Chronicles 18, 19:1-2).”
America is under the judgment of God for alliances with her enemies.
Proverbs 8:17 says “I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.”
It seems to me that our leadership is “double minded.” We want to do good but we will not give up the bad, trying to take both along to glory. Apostle James says (James 1:8), ”A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.”
Psalm 1:1-5: “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
“But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. “And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
“The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
“Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.”
This is a type of the overcoming man. It is time to seek the Lord! Isaiah 55:6-7 says, “Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
“Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord … and he will be abundantly pardoned.”
Psalm 22:2: “O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent.”
Colossians 3:1-2: “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
“Set your affections on things above, not on things on the earth.”
The time is short. Do not delay. Amen.
