The Holmes Community College Bulldog baseball team went to 3-1 on the season after picking up three of four wins on a road trip to Wallace-Selma Community College on Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, the Bulldogs won game one 4-2. Jared Bailey picked up the win in relief of Jason Hursey. In game two, Holmes fell 4-3. Chase Chancellor suffered the loss on the mound.
On Saturday, the Bulldogs won 4-2. Cole Feazell picked up the win. In game two, Clyde Kendrick picked up the win in a 1-0 Bulldog win.
Holmes travels to Millington, Tenn. on Friday and Saturday to play five games.
The Holmes Community College Bulldogs fell to 10-9 overall and 2-6 in the North Division after falling to the Coahoma Community College Tigers, 78-71, here Thursday night.
The Bulldogs led by as much as 13 points in the first half and held a slight edge at halftime, 33-32. Dayshawn Watkins led the Bulldogs with 21 points while Tamarico Wilson had 10. Patrick Banks led the Bulldogs with nine rebounds.
Against Mississippi Delta last Monday, the Bulldogs fell 65-61. Watkins led the Bulldogs with 12 points. Travis Johnson and Vercel Webster each led with six rebounds.
The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs improved to 6-14 and 3-6 in the North Division with a 64-50 win over the Coahoma Community College Lady Tigers here Thursday night.
Holmes led by as many as 15 points in the first half and led 31-23 at the half. Carmesha Nalls led the Lady Bulldogs with 16 points while LaShonda Wilson had 13 and Taylor Johnson had 12. Johnson led with 12 rebounds while Wilson had nine.
Last Monday the Lady Bulldogs fell to Mississippi Delta, 78-55. Johnson led the Lady Bulldogs with 19 points while Nalls had 14. Laricka Morgan had 10 rebounds in the game.
The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldog softball team went 1-3 in their first two doubleheaders of the season falling twice at Jones County Junior College on Friday and splitting two games with Marion Military in Goodman on Saturday.
On Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs defeated Marion 11-7 in game one and fell to Marion 6-5 in game two. In game one, Katie Johnston picked up the win from the mound pitching six innings giving up seven runs on eight hits striking out two. Kelsey Kelly and Taylor Jordan each had two hits for the Lady Bulldogs with Kelly adding a grand slam and Jordan having two doubles. Michelle Gregory added a home run while Kally Kirk and Charneissa Gordon each had a double. In game two, Brett Whitlock suffered the loss from the mound pitching seven innings giving up six runs on 10 hits striking out three. Karina Brown, Jordan, Gregory and Amberly Young each had two hits. Brown had a triple while Kathernine Pennington added a double.
On Friday, the Lady Bulldogs fell to Jones 9-1 in game one. Johnston suffered the loss pitching four innings giving up seven runs on six hits and striking out two. Kelly and Gordon each had one hit. In game two, Whitlock suffered the loss giving up nine runs on seven hits with no strikeouts. Brown, Pennington and Jordan each had two hits with Jordan having two doubles.
Holmes hosts Copiah-Lincoln on Thursday at 3 p.m. in a doubleheader.
