Christine Clardy

Graveside services for Christine Clardy, 70, of Maben were Jan. 31, 2014, at Spring Valley Cemetery in Mathiston with the Russell Mord officiating.

She was born Sept. 7, 1943. Mrs. Clardy was retired from Garan. She died Jan. 30, 2014, at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora.

Survivors include her husband, Lester Clardy of Maben; a brother, Chuck Goodgine of Texas; and one niece.

Wise-Reed Funeral Home of Eupora was in charge of arrangements.

 

Jessie Bell

Dobbs Cornish

Jan. 29, 2014

Services for Jessie Bell Dobbs Cornish, 94, of Ackerman were Feb. 1, 2014, at Ackerman Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Irvin officiating. Burial was in Enon Cemetery.

She was born Nov. 12, 1919, in Choctaw County to the late Silas M. and Nannie Bell Gammill Dobbs. Mrs. Cornish was an executive secretary and member of Ackerman Baptist Church.

She died Jan. 29, 2014, at Choctaw County Nursing Center in Ackerman.

Survivors include a son, Buddy Cornish of Ackerman; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Ackerman Baptist Church Building Fund.

Coleman Funeral Home of Ackerman was in charge of arrangements.

 

David Jones Jr.

Jan. 30, 2014

Services for David Jones, Jr., 67, were Feb. 5, 2014, at Second Baptist Church of Oxford with Pastor Andrew Robinson Sr. officiating. Burial was in the Veterans Garden of the Garden of Memories located at Coleman Funeral Home in Oxford.

Born in Eupora to the late David and Mary Jones, he retired as an engineer with AT&T after 42 years of employment in Aberdeen and Oxford. Mr. Jones was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Vietnam, and was a member at Second Baptist Church of Oxford. He died Jan. 30, 2014, at his home near Oxford.

Survivors include his wife, Minnie K. Jones of Oxford; four sons, David Jones III, Dennis Ramont Jones and Anthony DeWayne Jones of Oxford, and Timothy Matthew Jones of Ellenwood, Ga.; a sister, Annie Louise Johnson of Oxford; a brother, James Jones of St. Louis; and 11 grandchildren.

 

James Rodney

Kilgore Jr.

Services for James Rodney Kilgore Jr., 76, of Eupora were Feb. 1, 2014, at Callahan Missionary Baptist Church in Woodland with the Rev. Rossie Sullivan officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

He was born Nov. 13, 1937, I Mantee to the late James Rodney and Malinda Kilgore. Mr. Kilgore was disabled. He died Jan. 23, 2014, at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora.

Survivors include three brothers, George C. Kilgore and Allen Kilgore of Mantee, and James Albert Kilgore of Millington, Tenn.; four sisters, Dories Joe Liningham of Sturgis, Pearlie Mae Wade of West Orange, N.J., Neil Ruth Hankins of Orange, N.J., and Mableine Lonon of East Orange, N.J..

Bobby Gene McClain

Services for Bobby Gene McClain, 82, of Maben were Jan. 31, 2014, at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel in Eupora with the Rev. Tommy Temple officiating. Burial was in Blythe Creek Cemetery in Choctaw County.

Mr. McClain was a retired construction worker. He was an Army Ranger and member of the 82nd Airborne Division in the Korean War, serving from 1949-53. Mr. McClain was a member of Maben First Baptist Church. He died Jan. 25, 2014, at his residence in Maben.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Wright McClain of Maben; three daughters, Monica Miller of Phoenix, Donna Blair of West Point and Denise Reid of Columbus; three sons; Robert Wayne McClain and Doug Pettit of Maben, Lee Pettit of Steens; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Aubrey Blair, Brandon Blair, Danny Johnson, Mike McConnell, Andy Pettit, Doug Pettit, Gene Reed, John Paul Waits and David Wright.

 

Martha Frances

Newman

Services for Martha Frances Newman, 69, of Eupora were Feb. 1, 2014, in Wells Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery, Enid.

Mrs. Newman was born to the late Thomas Everett and Annie Estell Burk Mehan on July 17, 1944, in Panola County. A homemaker, she was a 1962 graduate of Pope High School. She died Jan. 29, 2014, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Survivors include her husband, James Charles “Butch” Newman Jr. of Eupora; four sons, Robert D. Newman of Tennessee, James C. Newman III of Signal Mountain, Tenn., Thomas E. Newman of Norfolk, Va., and Michael Newman of Ackerman; and nine grandchildren.

Moore Owens

Services for Lee Ella Moore Owens, 86, of Eupora, were Feb. 1, 2014, at National Funeral Home Chapel in Grenada. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Daughter of the late James Floyd and Nora Lee Hood Moore, she was originally from Lodi and then Eupora but spent most of her life in Grenada. Mrs. Owens was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. She died Jan. 28, 2014.

Survivors include a daughter, Lydia Gary Duke of Suffolk, Va.; a son, Hollis Michael Gary of Eupora; two stepdaughters, Ann Owens McKnett and Brenda Owens Williams; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren,

Mae Evelyn Shaw

Services for Mae Evelyn Shaw, 85, of Eupora were Feb. 1, 2014, at Liberty United Methodist Church. Burial was in Churchill Cemetery

She was born March 1, 1928. Miss Shaw was a retired educator and member of Liberty United Methodist Church. She died Jan. 29, 2014, at Winona Manor.
