The teens of the Maben First Baptist Church are getting geared up and ready for summer camp in Pensacola, Fla., this coming June 16-20.
They participated in a barbecue chicken fundraiser in the fellowship hall Saturday. At this function, they helped prepare and dispense the food in carryout trays. Cleanup detail followed. Each child was allotted tickets to sell for the big day and then helped with the serving.
According to Cody Tyner, the youth minister, teens between 13-19 are raising monies to finance the transportation costs, plus food and lodging for this upcoming trip in June. Each child will help raise the $320 needed per child for camp.
Tyner says that they will participate in worship services, listen to inspirational speakers, join in the singing, listen to gospel bands and help with a mission project: helping the elderly with lawn maintenance.
In the afternoon when the tides are coming and going, the teens will participate in Bible study on the beach.
Their next event at the church will be a fish fry at 5:45 p.m. Sunday. Local storyteller Al Tuck will be part of the entertainment. Music will also be provided by Lauren Miles and Britt Goodin.
Members may purchase tickets through the church office. They sell for $6, adults; $3, children under 12; and family of four or more, $20. Extra plates will be prepared, but it would help if tickets are purchased ahead of time.
Come out for a fun time and fellowship with the community at First Baptist Church on Feb. 9.
