From School Reports
Haley Pate, a second-year student in Dionne Hodges’ Business Management program at the Webster County Career and Technology Center, is Webster County Schools’ Student of the Month for December.
Haley is the daughter of Becky Pate and Darrell Pate. She is a junior at East Webster High School, where she is an A-Honor roll student. Haley is president of DECA, the student organization affiliated with the Business Management program. She and her partner won second place in the Marketing Communication Team Decision Making contest at the DECA District II competition on Feb. 15 in Olive Branch.
Haley is a member of the 2013-14 state-championship cheerleading squad and the 2013-14 state-championship dance team. She is an active member in the EWHS Beta Club, Biology Club and Drama Club.
Haley’s father commented that Haley has loved being a student in Hodges’ class for the past two years, and is trying to find a way to go back for a third year.
According to Hodges, “Haley is one of those students who truly make a difference in the classroom environment. Her warm, friendly nature is sincere, and her respect for her teachers and peers is exceptional.”
Phil Ferguson, WCCTC director said “Haley’s visible excitement at being named student of the month was something we weren’t surprised to see. She carefully arranged her schedule so that she could take a class in our building. She’s always excited about being here on a daily basis.”
Haley reports, “I love being a student at the vo-tech because it’s so easy to talk to Ms. Hodges and I learn real-life skills that help me. Everyone is so nice there, and they really care about the students and what the students are going to do with their lives. I am going to find a way to go back there for my senior year.”
