Courthouse should be restored

It saddens me to think our statuesque courthouse, the symbol of community, may no longer represent the county seat of Webster County in Walthall.

This building stands for so much more than just where business and justice is conducted. Even as a child growing up in Walthall, I realized it was the “hub” of the community and the county. It was the center of activity. It was the gathering place for young friends to play “kick the can,” “hide and seek,” and we knew where each nook and cranny was in that beautiful old building.

The front steps were where political speeches and celebrations were held. During court week, it was the hustle and bustle of trials and justice being served. It still was functioning as so until the fire.

The craftsmanship, quality and architectural design of that structure are irreplaceable today, and needs to be preserved. When one enters the grand hall, there is a sense of the past being brought to the present. The building stands for generations of incredible public servants who have given their best to make sure the people of Webster County were and are, today, represented sufficiently and affectively.

Yes, a building can be built to house records and business as usual … but so much will be lost in the transition. This building restored can be even more efficient as needed, and still maintain its grandeur and sense of history. I pray the people of Webster County, young and old, will not be robbed of this magnificent building which represents the past, present and future!

Be confident in the power of God: our refuge, strength

By Pastor Bobby McMullen

Psalm 46:1

Scripture tell us that David was a “Man after God’s own Heart (Act 13:22).” And being just that man, he knew the absolute power that God had, and he was confident in, that power.

At the beginning of Chapter 46, David lists two major qualities of God. First, he is our refuge. What is a refuge? A refuge is a place of safety. A place that is secure and fortified.

In other words, a refuge is a place that is well protected and not easily accessible to enemy. So David is telling us that when we know God, we are confident in his power, because he is our Shelter. He is our Protector. He is our Shield. See beloved, it’s not the notion that God makes us strong, the fact is that God is our strength.

Second, he is our Strength. What does this word “Strength” mean? Literally we know what it means. But that definition is not important because here David is talking spiritually. The Word “Strength” comes form the Hebrew word “Owz” meaning Boldness.

Beloved, when you are in God and God is in you he will give you BOLDNESS. Yes, Boldness to say No to Sin, Boldness to say No drugs, Boldness to say No to that that does not line up according to his Word.

See, many times we get caught up in our own ambitions, our own works and forget that it’s not about us but it’s all about our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ. Apostle Paul gives us a wonderful example of the “Strength” of God in 2nd Corinthians 12:7-10. Here, Paul asks God three times about his affliction in the flesh, but God said “My grace is sufficient for thee for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”

Paul, after the Almighty said this, gladly accepted his infirmities so that the Power of God could rest upon him. See, when we are weak in the flesh we are strong in his Grace, Power and his Boldness. Beloved, we must know that God is our refuge and our Strength, and because of this, we can have Confidence in the Power of God.

Dangers ahead: Keep your eyes in ‘The Book’

By the Rev. J.B. Rowe

Scripture: Joshua 3:2-4 “And it came to pass after three days, that the officers went through the host;

3) “And they commanded the people, saying, When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it.

4) “Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousands cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that you may know the way by which you must go: for you have not passed this way heretofore.”

Moses had died. Joshua had led Israel to the Jordan River and they were to pass over. Jordan represents death. God and Jesus is life. In Deuteronomy 30:15, God put before Israel a choice, “Evil and good, life and death.”

Choose life; we still have that choice. This nation has that choice. Life comes only by wholesale repentance — from the top echelon down, as Nineveh did. As we said last week — “perilous times are here” — 2 Timothy 3:2-5. All of these sins are increasing into more violence: From such turn away.

The officers told the people — when you see the ark and the priest carrying it, to go after it — “follow it.” The ark of the covenant represents the presence of God. If you are in the darkness of these perilous times, a light is shining that will lead you out of the darkness and misunderstanding into life and liberty. Remove from where you are, go after the lights. “Arise and shine, for thy light is come.”

This administration is leading this nation into deep darkness. It is as a train going down a mountain, into deep curves with no brakes, a crash is sure to come. Swallowed up by debt and still spending borrowed money.

Obamacare has shifted the burden of debt onto the young working class, who are the backbone of any economy. They cannot pay their own way and others, so they lost their way of life. We lose the middle class, the working people. They become dependent on the government. This is their goal. You end up with two classes of people: the rich and the poor, a third-world economy.

This is not God’s plan for his people. Joshua and Israel were faced with an impossible problem. The Jordan flooded during the harvest time. They had to cross and get to Jericho. Joshua followed God’s plan. The priest lifted the ark of the covenant and stepped into the waters. The waters (the enemy) stepped back, piled up in a heap and the children of Israel walked across on dry ground.

Christians — children of God — do not give up: follow the true word of God and they who watch for your souls. There is nothing impossible with God. “All things are possible to him that believeth (Mark 9:23).” The wicked hate those who believe and trust in God. Psalm 2:1-5 says “Why do the heathen rage and the people imagine a vain thing?

2) “The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying.

3) “Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

4) “He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

5) “Then shall he speak to them in his wrath, and vex them in His sore displeasure.”

It is a fearful thing for God to laugh at you. The day is coming when the cup of iniquity will be filled up.

Malachi 4:1-3: “For, behold, the days cometh that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

2) “But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves in the stall.

3) “And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be as ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the Lord of hosts.”

John Kerry is working to get a peace treaty signed between the Jews and Palestinians. When it is signed, 1 Thessalonians 5:1-5, “But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.

2) “For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

3) “For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them (Who? The wicked), as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

4) “But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

5) “You are all the children of light (understanding), and the children of the day: we are neither of the night, nor of darkness.”

The signs of the times tell us that Christ’s coming is at the door. Understand that when this peace treaty is signed between the Jew and Arab, it will begin the last seven years of/before Christ’s coming.

After 3½ years, the great tribulation begins. Three and a half years — 1,260 days — are all the same time, appointed for tribulation. Christ comes at the end thereof. Read Matthew 24:29 and prove it to yourself. Matthew 24:44 says, “Be ye therefore ready also, for in such an hour as ye think not, the Son of man cometh.”

There is no secret rapture. God has never done anything in secret. Why should he start now? Is he afraid someone will haul him into court? There is no one that he has to answer to. “He comes with clouds; and every eye shall see him (Revelation 1:7).”

Just be sure that you are looking for him. He is coming! Amen.
