‘After 5

at the BLY’

Eupora Arts will host “After 5 at the BLY” at 5 p.m. Jan. 30.

This will be a meet-and-greet hour to mingle and discuss current art trends, happenings and future Eupora Arts events. Come join and enjoy refreshments.

Community education meeting

A community education meeting will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 30 at West Oktibbeha County High School in Maben.

Parents , community, teachers and students are welcome to attend. Items to be discussed include Common Core, charter schools and school consolidation, among others. For more information contact Cherraye Oats at 258-4855.

Benefit for

Buford family

Maben Church of God is hosting a benefit for the Randall Buford family Feb. 1. Bro. Randall, who was a member of Maben Church of God and a deacon, died Jan. 20 after a lengthy illness.

A spaghetti supper will be from 4:30-5:30 p.m. for $7 a plate, dine-in or takeout. Tim Frith and the Gospel Echoes will be singing at 6 p.m. The church is located at 3965 Crowley Drive.

Benefit for

Union Fire Dept.

A benefit for the Union Fire Department will be Feb. 1 from 5 p.m. until.

Brunswick stew will be available for $7 all you can eat or for $20 a gallon (bring your own jug). Children 6 and under eat free.

Members are also selling chances on a $100 bill to be given away that night: $2 for one or $5 for three.

The benefit will include a cakewalk and entertainment by Tom Booth.

The Webster, Oktibbeha and Choctaw Chapter of Retired Teachers will meet at 1 p.m. Feb. 5 at the Mathiston Public Library.

The Northeast Mississippi Fruit and Vegetable Producers Association Annual Conference & Trade Show will be Feb. 6 and 7 in Verona at the Lee County Agri-Center in the Magnolia Building.

Choctaw County 1st Responders Dinner

The Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce will host the third annual First Responders Appreciation Dinner on Feb. 28 at the Community Center in Ackerman.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are Chamber members – $10; Friends of the Chamber – $15; children 5-11 – $5; children 5 and under – free. Tickets are available at the chamber office, located on 55 E. Quinn St. and deadline to purchase a ticket is Feb. 7. Basic beekeeping

Temple COGIC

Deliverance Temple Church of God in Christ will have revival Feb. 4-7 at 7 p.m. Elder Michael Goings from Shammach COGIC, Tupelo, will be the speaker. The church is located at McBride Quarters in Maben.

Walthall Baptist

deer supper

Walthall Baptist Church will have its annual grilled chicken and deer supper Feb. 7 from 5-7 p.m.

Carryout plates will be available at 4:30. Deer, grilled chicken, quail, chicken livers, fried green tomatoes, desserts and other side items will be served. This year all donations will go to retire the note on the sanctuary.

Pleasant Hill

The Rev. Billy Robinson and Pleasant Hill M.B. Church will host the annual Black Heritage Awareness Program at 6 p.m. Feb. 8.

The theme will be “The Dreams of Yesterday, the Realities of Today and the Hope of Tomorrow.” The speaker will be Brother Kelvin Winbush of Haven United Methodist Church.

D-NOW retreat

Students from throughout Webster County are encouraged to sign up for this year’s D-NOW weekend retreat set for Feb. 14-16 at First Baptist Church of Mathiston. Disciple Now Weekend is a weekend retreat for a youth group.
