Commander has local ties

For the WPT

Col. Mike Nabors of Collinsville has been named commander of the 186th Air Refueling Wing at Key Field in Meridian.

Nabors is the son of Billy and Marjorie White Nabors of Meridian, and grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. David Nabors and Mr. and Mrs. Lowell White, all of Webster County. His wife, Beth Boatman Nabors, is also a Eupora native. Mike and Beth have three children and one grandson.

Nabors was a commander of flight operations for the 186th ARW and a pilot in the cockpit of the KC 135 Stratotanker before being selected to this position. His new responsibilities as base commander will include overseeing the mission and the members of his wing, as well as recruiting new members. Nabors will now oversee all logistics, training, personnel and flying exercises for the entire Key Field.

Serving at Key Field has become a family tradition as one of the former commanders was Col. Jim White, son of the late James H. White of Maben.
