One person was injured after an 18-wheeler struck a pickup about 12:30 p.m. Friday on U.S. 82 one mile east of Tomnolen.

Sgt. Criss Turnipseed of the Mississippi Highway Patrol said a 2011 red Peterbilt driven by Matthew Counsell, 51, of Houston, Texas, rear-ended a 2002 black Toyota Tacoma driven by Joshua Pittman, 20, of Eupora. The vehicles were eastbound.

The Peterbilt left the highway and plowed through J.B. Rowe’s yard before coming to a stop. It was transporting paper goods and is owned by Arnold Transportation of Jacksonville Fla., according to Turnipseed.

Pittman’s passenger, 20-year-old Ashleigh Phelps of Canton, was transported to North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora and treated for minor injuries. Pittman and Counsell both went to NMMC-Eupora by private vehicle to be checked out.

All people involved were restrained at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation. Responding agencies were the Tomnolen and Eupora fire department, MHP and NMMC-Eupora EMS.
