A pair of local athletes were recently named to the Mississippi Association of Coaches Class 2A All-State team.
East Webster junior offensive tackle Brock Flemings was named to the first-team offense, while junior Eupora High School place-kicker Justin Lewis was chosen to the second-team offense.
East Webster head coach Doug Wilson said Flemings, listed at 6-foot-4 and 270 pounds, showed his toughness throughout the season.
“He has really come on to be a good football player,” Wilson said. “He played through some injuries and showed his dedication to the game. He has got the kind of attitude you need for an offensive lineman.”
Lewis was a key cog of Eupora’s offensive attack this season, knocking through 42-of-45 extra point attempts, while hitting on four-of-seven field goals.
“It always helps when you have a good place-kicker and he does a very good job for us,” Eupora High School head coach Junior Graham said early in the season.
Lance Mancuso of Bassfield was named Class 2A Coach of the Year, while Bruce quarterback Donta Armstrong was named Offensive Player of the year and Bassfield linebacker Alvin Moore was chosen Defensive Player of the Year.
Other Region 5-2A players named to the Class 2A first team were center Robert Merton of Okolona, athlete Jay Johnson of Bruce, and defensive end Jay Collins of Okolona.
Being named to the second team from Region 5-2A were tackle Zach Magee of Okolona, center Jordan England of Calhoun City, fullback Cartin McBride of Calhoun City, quarterback Chavel Gates of Calhoun City, defensive end Andrukus Ezell of Calhoun City, inside linebacker Shaquille Wright of Calhoun City, and cornerback Jacoby Heard of Okolona.
