It took a couple extra days to get the game in due to inclement weather, but when the Lady Wolverines of East Webster did make the trip to play West Union on Monday night the result was a favorable one.
The 45-38 win pushed the EW girls to 6-1 on the season. The East Webster boys dropped a 56-41 decision to West Union to fall to 4-3 on the season.
The East Webster boys and girls will be taking part in the Choctaw County Charger Invitational in Ackerman this week. The Lady Wolverines and Wolverines will face French Camp at 4 and 5:30 p.m. on Thursday and take on Caledonia at the same times on Friday. The East Webster teams will then visit Houlka on Dec. 19 and host Choctaw County on Dec.20.
“We played okay in spurts,” said East Webster girls coach Todd Hutchinson. “We were up and down. We missed some free throws in the fourth quarter that kept us from stretching our lead out a little more.”
The Lady Wolverines held a 22-13 lead at the half and managed to hold off the Lady Chargers from there. Quantesha Patterson lead EW in scoring with 20 points, while Mamie Hollenhead hit for eight.
The West Union boys led 14-7 after one quarter, but East Webster fought back to take a 21-20 halftime edge, before being outscored 36-20 over the final 16 minutes of the game.
Tyler Wooley led West Union with 22 points. No individual scorers were reported for East Webster.
