San Diego Padres trade for Eupora’s Jones

Former Eupora High School and Mississippi State University pitching standout Devin Jones has been acquired by the San Diego Padres from the Baltimore Orioles.

Jones was 4-7 with a 5.84 ERA in 24 starts for the Bowie Bay Sox of the Eastern League (AA) last season. He struck out 108 batters and walked 48 in 123.1 innings pitched.

He was 1-0 in 2013 with his one start with the Class A Frederick Keys of the Carolina League last season and was a stellar 7-1 with an ERA of 2.80 in nine starts with the Keys in 2012.

In his three years of minor league baseball since being drafted by the Orioles in the ninth round of the MLB draft out of MSU in 2011, the 6-foot2, 170-pounder has posted a record of 15-18 with five saves and an ERA of 4.47 in 67 games pitched. He has 34 starts to his credit.

The Padres traded relief pitcher Brad Brach to the Orioles in order to get Jones. Brach had a 3.19 ERA in 33 games last season with the Padres.

In three seasons with San Diego, Brach went 3-6 with a 3.70 ERA over 109 appearances.
