After a slow start, the East Webster High School girls basketball team turned it on in the second half on Tuesday night to take a 51-33 win over homestanding Winona.

The win pushed the Lady Wolverines to 2-1 on the season, following a 60-31 loss to Jackson Prep in the Ethel Classic on Saturday. East Webster pays a visit to Vardaman on Saturday, but due to a change on the schedule will play host to Tupelo Christian at Wood Junior College in Mathiston on Monday. The game was originally scheduled for Tupelo on Tuesday. The varsity girls game will begin at 5 p.m. on Monday.

“Against Winona we were still a little shaky early,” Said EW head coach Todd Hutchinson. “It was that kind of a deal. As the game went on we began to play better and cause a few turnovers.”

East Webster fell behind Jackson Prep 15-5 after one quarter of play and stayed in the 10-point range through the first three quarters before the Lady Patriots outscored the Lady Wolverines, who had began to substitute, 23-7 in the fourth quarter.

“We only had seven field goals in the game,” Hutchinson said. “That’s not very many. You are not going to win many games making just seven field goals.”

Quantesha Patterson led East Webster with 14 points in the game.
