From Press Reports
The 2013 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City will feature a performance by more than 700 cheerleading and dance team members representing Varsity Spirit.
This will be the 18th year that Varsity Spirit has teamed up with Spirit of America Productions to give this opportunity to the cheerleaders and dance team members who qualified at camps across the country.
Spirit of America hosts two featured performances in the parade. Cheerleaders and dancers from across the country are invited to perform a nationally televised, showcased performance live on NBC each Thanksgiving in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, one of the most celebrated parades in the world.
Hai-Leigh Hodges, Mary Kathryn Brister, Sarah Grace Wade and Anna Littlejohn, senior cheerleaders at Eupora High School, will participate in this year’s parade. Hai-Leigh is the daughter of Kristie and Del Hodges; Mary Kathryn, daughter of Nancy and Billy Brister; Sarah Grace is the daughter of Janice and Kenneth Wade; and Anna is the daughter of Stacy and Tim Littlejohn.
Outstanding cheerleaders and dancers from Universal Cheerleaders Association, Universal Dance Association, National Cheerleaders Association, National Dance Alliance and United Spirit Association include team captains and standout performers who attended summer camp. All camp companies are member organizations of Varsity, the largest cheerleading and dance team organization in the world.
The group will spend the week before Thanksgiving in New York City sightseeing and rehearsing for their performance on Thanksgiving Day. This year’s cheerleaders and dancers will show their spirit along the streets of Manhattan from Central Park West and 78th Street down to 34th and Seventh Avenue. The parade culminates in Herald Square with a televised performance of the spirited routine they have spent the week rehearsing.
In addition to the senior trip, freshman cheerleader Greer Blaylock will participate in the Disney World Thanksgiving parade in Orlando, Fla., where more than 500 junior high school cheerleaders and dancers from
across the country will perform. This parade is also sponsored by the UCA/UDA Varsity Brand.
The individuals invited to perform in the parade are part of a select group of cheerleaders and dancers chosen as All-Americans during Universal Cheerleaders Association and Universal Dance Association summer camps across the country.
All Americans are selected via tryout based on either superior cheerleading or dance skills.
Only the top 12 percent of the cheerleaders and dancers from UCA or UDA camps earn the chance to march in a holiday parade of this caliber. Greer, daughter of Lyn and Stan Blaylock, will perform with the UCA/UDA All-Americans group in the pre-parade at the Magic Kingdom Park on Thanksgiving Day.
These five cheerleaders have been actively fundraising for their trips. If you’d like to help and support these girls, contact Lyn Blaylock at firstname.lastname@example.org.
