Quinn being presented as debutante

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. (Rho Nu Zeta Chapter) will host its 14th Annual Debutante Scholarship Pageant this Saturday at the Choctaw County Community Center in Ackerman. The program will begin at 7 p.m. This year’s theme is “A Night of Royalty.”

Five young ladies will be presented at Debutante of 2013, including Sonmondra Quinn of Eupora.

Sonmondra is the 17-year-old daughter of Marcus Ford and Bridgette Quinn of Eupora. She is a senior at Eupora High School. She is active in band, color guard and Interact Club. She also assists with fundraising events within her community.

Her hobbies are dancing, playing her clarinet and reading. Sonmondra’s favorite color is red. She describes herself as ambitious, bashful and classy. Ten years from now, she plans to be a pediatrician in her children’s clinic. She is sponsored by Akeba Shumaker.

The debutantes began their season on Aug. 26 with orientation. Other activities included practice sessions, dress rehearsal and a character-building retreat. Shumaker was the presenter for the retreat. She informed everyone about proper etiquette for using the social media.

Awards and scholarships to be presented during the pageant are Miss Congeniality, Jasmine Russ Essay Scholarship, Creative and Performing Arts Award, Honorable Mentions, 2nd Princess, 1st Princess and Miss Zeta Debutante 2013. Miss Zeta Debutante will serve as a Goodwill Ambassador for the chapter through the year.

Tickets are $10 and available from chapter members Arnita Riley, president; Charlotte Miller, Debutante Committee chair; Virginia Thomas; Gloria Cotton; Caroline Teague; LaCourntey Landfair; Cassie Huntley; Lasonja Hardy; Latonya Hardy; Marquita Cooper; Betty Carter; Shumaker and Carrie Smith.
