Chicken stew


Montpelier Lodge #220 will be selling chicken stew for fundraising on Nov 9 at the Lodge in Montpelier starting at 10 a.m. A quart of stew will be $8, and a gallon will be $25.

Dott Dodd benefit

A benefit for Dott Dodd will be Nov. 9 at the Tomnolen Fire Department from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

It will include a cakewalk, live music, auction of arts/crafts, jewelry, gift certificates from various businesses and more. Hamburger plates will be available for $5 each. Chances are being sold on a Savage Axis 270 rifle with scope, Gamo Bone Collector air rifle 177 with scope and a 15-inch flatscreen TV.

Anyone wanting to donate items for the auction, a cake for the cakewalk or buy a chance on the items to be raffled may contact Stacie Tollison at 662-312-4135 or Judy Hodges at 662-744-4401.

All proceeds will go to Miss Dott to help with her medical expenses and cancer treatment.

Gospel singing

A gospel music jubilee will be at 6 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Gore Springs Community Center. Performers include the Witness 4 Quartet of Alabama, Canaan’s Way, the Slaton Family and the Tracemen Quartet. Admission is $5.

Free concert at

Mays Corn Maze

The White Cap Shades with special guests Caroline May, Kathleen Lott and IMPACT will be in concert Nov. 9 at the Mays Corn Maze.

The WCS is an acoustic country band that consists of longtime friends Garrett Oswalt and Ben May. Both have been in many bands together, and are together again, for their “Mays Maize Maze One-Night-Only Extravaganza” show, to rock the farm that made them the band they are today.

But they are not alone. Alongside the WCS will be two more young and talented acts: (1) Caroline May and Kathleen Lott, and (2) IMPACT [Jessica May, Katie Leach and Nathan May].

The concert, which starts at 7 p.m., is free and the maze is located in 3314 Webster-Lodi Road. Come join the fun!

Veterans Day

tribute Nov. 11

Joe H. Morehead VFW Post 3806 and Ladies Auxiliary will conduct a Veterans Day tribute Nov. 11 to all Webster County veterans who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

The tribute will be at 11 a.m. at the Webster County Veterans Memorial Monument located in front of the post office in downtown Eupora.

Veterans Day Banquet

Joe H. Morehead VFW Post 3806  and Ladies Auxiliary will have a Veterans Day Banquet on Nov. 11 at 6;30 p.m.

The banquet will be at the post home located on VFW Road for the veterans who have come back home. Veterans and their family members are welcome to attend.

Friends of

the Library

The regular monthly meeting of Friends of the Library at the Webster County Library in Eupora has been changed to Tuesday, Nov. 12 because of the Veterans Day closing of the library on Monday.

The speaker at 11:30 a.m. will be Mississippi author John Floyd, who will be available to sign his new book. A light lunch will be available afterward for a nominal fee. Everyone is invited to attend.

4-H Shooting

Sports signup

It’s that time again! Signup for participation in 4-H Shooting Sports for youth ages 8-18 (as of Jan. 1, 2014) may sign up for this club from 6-7 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Eupora Depot.

Age requirements are as follows: Air Rifle, ages 8-18; .22 Rifle, ages 10-18; Air Pistol, ages 8-18; .22 Pistol, ages 14-18; Shotgun, ages 10-18.

Youth can sign up for two disciplines and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at sign up.

Calhoun County

Holiday Bazaar

The Calhoun County MHV Council invites vendors, clubs, individuals and businesses to participate in the Calhoun County MHV Holiday Bazaar, which will be Nov. 15 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Multipurpose Building in Pittsboro.

Booth space is free but vendors must register by Nov. 8. Contact the Calhoun County Extension Office at 662-412-3177 for more information and to register.

Chuck Wagon

Gang concert

The Chuck Wagon Gang will be appearing at First Baptist Church in Eupora at 7 p.m. Nov. 15. Opening for the Gang at 6:30 p.m. will be Southern Image Quartet of Plantersville. A love offering will be received.

Blood drives

United Blood Services will conduct these upcoming blood drives in Webster County: from 8:15 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at Eupora High School (bloodmobile) and from 3-7:15 p.m. Nov. 19 at Mathiston First Baptist Church’s Bibb Hall.

A soap-making workshop (cold press) will be Nov. 14 at 5:30 p.m. at the Eupora Depot.

Christmas Parade

The theme for Ackerman Christmas Parade will be “Christmas Blessings — Unity in the Community.” The parade is set for 6 p.m. Dec. 5. Call 285-6251 for more information.


Christmas Parade

The Eupora Christmas Parade will be at 5 p.m. Dec. 7. The theme is “A Candy Christmas.”

Forms are available at The Webster Progress-Times office (58 N. Dunn St., 258-7532) and at City Hall or from any member of the Eupora Rotary Club. Forms must be completed and returned by 5 p.m. Dec. 4.


Christmas Parade

The Mantee Christmas Parade will be Dec. 7 at 5 p.m. The parade has no specific theme this year other than “Christmas” and entry is free.

Parade entries must be at the lineup locations by 4:30 p.m. Walkers and classic cars will line up at Mantee Baptist Church. Floats and other vehicles will line up in the area at the intersection of Old Dancy and Mantee roads.

The annual chili supper will follow at the Mantee Fire Department, and awards for best floats and classic cars will be announced.

Civil War roundtable

The Golden Triangle Civil War Round Table will meet Tuesday, November 12, at 7 p.m. The location for this month’s meeting will be the Grant Association offices on the first floor of the Mitchell Memorial Library on the MSU campus, Starkville area. Dr. John Marszalek will discuss updates on the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library, as well as additions to the Grant Association collections. Those interested in the Civil War or U. S.
