‘Pride of Eupora’ earns Superior ratings

The Pride of Eupora Marching Band competed in the Mississippi High School Activities Association State Marching Festival for Region II in Grenada on Oct. 12.

This competition serves as a qualifying event for the MHSAA State Marching Competition. The band performed its 2013 program titled “Virtuoso.” Song selections included “Chopsticks,” “Heart and Soul,” “Piano Sonato No. 16” “Fur Elise,” “Pine Top’s Boogie” and “Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2.”

The band was rated in four different categories. Categories included Field Commander, Color Guard, Percussion and Band. Ratings are categorized as follows: Superior (I), Excellent (II), Average (III) and Fair (IV). Bands must receive an overall rating of Superior in order to compete in the state competition. Pride of Eupora’s ratings were as follows: Field Commander (I), Color Guard (I), Percussion (I) and Band (I, I, I) for an overall score of I.

The band will travel to Pearl on Nov. 2 to compete in the Mississippi Bandmasters Association (MBA)/MHSAA Championship Marching Competition.
