East Webster High School has begun the move into its new academic facility in Cumberland and classes are scheduled to begin there next week.
Jack Treloar, Webster County superintendent of education, said the move was to officially start Wednesday from the school’s temporary location on the former Wood Institute campus in Mathiston.
“Hopefully (we will) start classes there on Monday morning, Oct. 28,” he added.
Treloar said plans for a dedication and open house have not yet been finalized but will be announced beforehand.
The new school was not completed before classes began in August as originally planned because of weather and construction delays. East Webster was relocated to the Mathiston campus just days after a tornado hit Cumberland on April 27, 2011, destroying the high school and gymnasium.
Ground was broken on the new school in May 2012. Panola Construction of Batesville was the general contractor. Construction continues on the new gymnasium on the Cumberland campus. See photo page 19.
