The Maben Lions Club hosted the eighth annual NFL Punt, Pass and Kick contest on Sept. 28 at 11 a.m. at the West Oktibbeha County High School football field.
Twenty-one youngsters from the ages of 8 to 15 competed in four appropriate age groups each for boys and girls. The seven first-place winners comprised four girls and three boys.
The winners were given blue ribbons and blue T-shirts printed with the year number, 13, and all the business sponsors on the back. The second-place winners received red ribbons and red T-shirts, and the third-place winners received white ribbons and white T-shirts, which they are wearing in the accompanying picture.
All participants received certificates of participation and promotional Lions Club yellow footballs. Other participants were Judd Azlin, Jakob Burton, Russ Hillhouse and Janri Jones of East Webster Elementary School in the 8-9 boys competition; Jason Graise of West Oktibbeha County Elementary School and Austin Perkins of EWES in the 10-11 boys competition; and Andrew Fesmire of WOES in the 12-13 boys competition. All girls who participated were among the top three winners in their age group.

Maben Lions Club members who worked the event were Nellie and Earl Blade, Barbara Wofford and Jane Collins on registration; Lavenia Yeatman, Pat Harpole and Shawn Nygard on scorekeeping; Ed James, Rob Collins and Ken Norwood on contest management; and Anne Earnest on concessions.
The first-place winners will go on to compete in the sectional competition on Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. at the Ballard Park Sports Complex, 655 Rutherford Road in Tupelo. Top scorers in the state sectional competitions will compete at a New Orleans Saints home game with complimentary tickets.
