Falling behind early was the nemesis of the Eupora High School Lady Eagles on Tuesday, as they dropped two straight games to Enterprise in the first round of the MHSAA Class 2A State Slow-Pitch Softball Playoffs.
“We didn’t make routine plays and we didn’t hit the ball with confidence,” said EHS head coach Kaley Harris. “It cost us two games.”
Enterprise scored three runs in the first inning and five more in the second on the way to a 10-0 win in the opening contest.
It was more of the same in the second game, as the homestanding Lady Bulldogs built an 11-1 lead before the Lady Eagles began to show some offensive spark by scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth. The big inning was powered by a two-run homer off the bat of Courtney Hatcher.
Enterprise, however, held on to take the 12-6 win and end Eupora’s season. The Lady Eagles played well down the stretch and finished second in Region 5-2A.
“We had two eighth graders step up and hit well and another play defense,” Harris said.
