MHSAA takes no action on private schools

For a couple days last week the rumor mill was whirling concerning whether or not the Mississippi High School Activities Association was going to ban private schools from the organization beginning with the 2015-16 school year.

That proposal, which passed overwhelmingly in a District 1 meeting 40-3 earlier this year, never came to a vote. MHSAA executive director Don Hinton said the proposal was mentioned, but no motion was made to bring it up for a vote Thursday morning during a meeting of the MHSAA Executive and Legislative Council.

Among the 13 private schools that could have been affected by the decision was French Camp Academy. Hinton said he didn’t expect the issue to be re-introduced any time soon.
