East Webster head coach Lee Berryhill is hoping his Lady Wolverines can pick up a little steam headed into next week’s opening round of the MHSAA Class 2A Slow-Pitch Softball State Playoffs.

EW secured its spot as the top seed in Region 5-2A with a solid 10-0 win over Calhoun City on Tuesday and is set to close out the regular season by hosting non-district foe Vardaman today (Thursday). The Lady Wolverines will open the playoffs by hosting Union — the Region 6-2A runners-up — in a best-of-three series beginning at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

“We are just hoping to pick up some momentum going into the playoffs,” Berryhill said. “We just need to keep things going.”

Mamie Hollenhead had two doubles and a home run in the big win over Calhoun City, while Jennah Pate homered and doubled as well.

East Webster and Eupora tied for the Region 5-2A lead, but the Lady Wolverines took the top seed due to run differential. East Webster won the Sept. 26 game between the two teams 10-6, while Eupora took a 6-3 win on Oct. 3.
