After dropping a tough 10-6 decision to East Webster on Thursday, the Eupora High School Lady Eagles came out and put a 21-1 thrashing on region foe Calhoun City on Tuesday to assure themselves of a spot in the MHSAA Class 2A State Slow-Pitch Softball Playoffs that will begin in mid-October.
The victory gives the Lady Eagles second place for sure in the region. Eupora plays host to East Webster on Thursday in a game that will decide the region championship.
On Saturday the Lady Eagles will make the short trip to Cumberland to take part in the East Webster Tournament. Eupora is set to face New Hope at 4:30 p.m. and Houston at 5:45 p.m.
“We really came out prepared and read to clinch a playoff spot,” EHS head coach Kaley Harris said of her team’s effort against Calhoun City. Hannah McDowell and Kaitlin Burton each homered for the Lady Eagles in the game, while Brittany Cooper smacked a double.
EHS held a 5-3 lead over East Webster headed into the bottom of the sixth of their contest, but the Lady Wolverines scored seven times to take the lead and the win.
McDowell and Kendall Gibson each blasted a homer for Eupora in that game, while Courtney Hatcher and Khlyer Cain delivered a double each.
