It has been so far, so good for the East Webster slow-pitch softball team this season. The Lady Wolverines have won 12 of the 14 games they have played, including the last seven in a row, but the games that count toward making the MHSAA Class 2A State Playoffs begin on Thursday when EW plays host to rival Eupora at 6 p.m.

East Webster, Eupora and Calhoun City are the only three teams in the district, with the top two advancing to the playoffs.

After hosting Eupora on Thursday, the Lady Wolverines will pay a visit to Calhoun City on Monday, before visiting Eupora on Oct. 3.

East Webster will then host its on tournament on Oct. 5 before closing out league play at home against Calhoun City on Oct. 8.

“I am pleased with our effort and our play,” said EW head coach Lee Berryhill of the Lady Wolverines. “We just need to be consistent.”

East Webster used three hits each from Autumn Frost and Mamie Hollenhead last Thursday to take a 15-3 win over homestanding South Pontotoc. The Lady Wolverines’ games in the Houston Tournament on Saturday were rained out, as was a Tuesday road trip to French Camp Academy.

East Webster has scored in double digits in six of its seven wins during current winning streak, outscoring opponents by a combined 87-11 during that stretch.
