Eupora saw a nearly 9 percent increase in sales tax collections in July, new reports shows.
The city saw $36,225 in collections for July, the latest figures available from the Mississippi Department of Revenue. This compares to $33,241 the previous year.
Collections since the state’s fiscal year began July 1 total $72,346, up 3.5 percent over the previous year.
Mathiston merchants took in $16,638 in July, up 12.25 percent from the $14,822 collected a year earlier. Year-to-date collections of $31,394 are down slightly from last year’s $31,595.
The state’s sales tax collections have a three-month cycle. Tax is collected by the retailer one month; it is reported and paid to the MDR by the retailer the second month; and the diversion is paid to the cities by the Revenue Department the third month.
These figures reflect other area taxes collected on July sales with 2012 figures in parentheses:
• Maben: $5,820 ($6,231)
• Mantee: $1,948 ($1,979)
• Walthall: $2,006 ($2,127)
