Eupora Arts Inc. is excited about closing out its Mississippi Arts Commission grant, starting new programs and planning events for the upcoming year.
The organization wants to support the public’s ideas and bring new outreach opportunities to the arts community.
Eupora Arts Inc. will meet at 6 p.m. Sept. 19 at the BLY Fine Arts Center. Those planning to attend are asked to contact Stephanie Stewart at 552-0651 or email@example.com.
The Gore Springs Community Center on Highway 8 will present a “Blast from the Past” at 6 p.m. Sept. 21.
Performing will be Mike Hyde, Mack Allen Smith, Richard McLaughlin, Bub Long, J.D. Long, Steve Long, Ricky Parker, Tyanne Newsom and Yvonne Threadgill. The emcee will be Joe Max Blakely. Admission is a suggested donation of $5.
A gospel singing will be at 6 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Stewart fire station featuring New Destiny, Hearts Desire, David McMillian and the William Springs Church of God group.
This will be the last singing for this year at the Stewart Fire Department. A love offering will be received for the groups singing. Call Angie at 662-418-6454 for more information.
The Quick Bites program “What’s for Lunch? Back in the Routine But Out of the Rut!” will be Sept. 26 at the Webster County Extension Office from noon-1 pm. Bring your lunch and join us. Please call 258-3971 to register for each.
Mandy Conrad, MSU health and wellness educator, will help you look at easy and healthy options to start your day and to pack for lunch to keep you going through that mid-afternoon crash. If you have been too busy to stop and get a better nutrition plan in place, this program will give you ideas to help you get started.
Weight Watchers class is held on Thursday nights at 5:30 at NMMC-Eupora in the Education Room. A new session begins Sept. 26.

Mississippi author Merle Temple will discuss his new book, “A Ghostly Shade of Pale,” at 10 a.m. Oct. 1 at the Choctaw County Library in Ackerman.
Sponsored by the Mississippi State University Extension Service and Choctaw County Library, the Yarn Spinners Book Club invites the public to read the book, and then come together to share thoughts and ideas.
The first captain in the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, Temple has penned a fiction story based on events that happened in his own career. The diverse elements of a Southern Gothic nightmare converge and occupy the same stage.

Pink Lemonade Day
Eupora Medical Clinic will host Pink Lemonade Day for Breast Cancer Awareness from 10 a.m.-noon Oct. 3.
Representatives from North Mississippi Medical Center’s Breast Care Center will share information about how to prevent or detect breast cancer in the earliest, most curable stages. In addition, clinic staff will offer free pink mini-manicures. Participants may drop by at their convenience; no appointment is necessary.

The Civic League of Mathiston has planned its annual beauty pageant, Miss and Mister Mathiston All Crown Pageant, for Oct. 12.
The pageant will begin at 2 p.m. with the doors opening at noon and it will be held in Bennett Auditorium at Wood College
The attire is formal wear and is from ages 0 up. The pageant will have 10 age divisions and everyone receives a crown (boys receive a gift comparable in price).
The entry fee is $35 and includes all side events except Most Photogenic. Good-luck tickets are included to offset the entry fee if desired. Contestants do not have to live in Mathiston/Webster County to participate.
