Sept. 26, What’s for Lunch? Back in the Routine But Out of the Rut! Mandy Conrad, MSU health and wellness educator, will help you look at easy and healthy options to start your day and to pack for lunch to keep you going through that mid-afternoon crash. If you have been too busy to stop and get a better nutrition plan in place, this program will give you ideas to help you get started.
Mathiston Muscadine Festival
The inaugural Mathiston Muscadine Festival will be Sept. 14 on the location of the “Red Cap” building in Mathiston on Highway 82 west.
The festival will begin at 6:30 a.m. for pre-race day registration and 7 for preregistration with the inaugural 5K run beginning at 7:30 a.m. at Red Cap. The racecourse will cross through historic downtown Mathiston. The festivities will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The activities will include arts, crafts, southern muscadine product cooking contest, live music and much more.
The festival has been recognized as a fundraiser for the Mathiston Veterans Monument by the Mathiston Economic Development and Support Council.
The Mathiston Veterans Monument is in the process of construction, and is designed to recognize 18 men who made the ultimate sacrifice for our town and our country to protect our freedom.
Applications for the arts and crafts vendors and the 5K run may be picked up at City Hall. Registration is by mail or you may pick up and drop forms at the Mathiston City Hall. Fees must be paid in advance, and no refunds are possible. The show will be held rain or shine.
Gospel music jamboree
A gospel music jamboree will be at 6 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Gore Springs Community Center. Admission is $5.
It will feature Tim Frith and the Gospel Echoes of Brandon, Voices of Faith of Leflore, the Cuomo Sisters of Vaiden, Doran Henry of West Point and Richard McLaughlin of Grenada.
The Civic League of Mathiston will be having a gospel singing Sept. 14 beginning at 7 p.m. in the town’s park.
Anyone who would like to have a slot should contact Beverly Brown at (662) 295-5147. Concessions will be available for purchase. The Civic League invites people to come out for a night of good gospel singing and not to forget to bring their lawn chairs.

Eupora Arts Inc. is excited about closing out its Mississippi Arts Commission grant, starting new programs and planning events for the upcoming year.
The organization wants to support the public’s ideas and bring new outreach opportunities to the arts community.

Pink Lemonade Day
Eupora Medical Clinic will host Pink Lemonade Day for Breast Cancer Awareness from 10 a.m.-noon Oct. 3.
Representatives from North Mississippi Medical Center’s Breast Care Center will share information about how to prevent or detect breast cancer in the earliest, most curable stages. In addition, clinic staff will offer free pink mini-manicures. Participants may drop by at their convenience; no appointment is necessary.

The Eupora baseball team is preselling rotisserie chicken dinner plates for Oct. 4. The dinner includes half of a rotisserie chicken, slaw and baked beans.
The cost of the dinner is $10 and can be picked up on Oct. 4 at the Eupora High School cafeteria from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased from any high school baseball player or at the high school office.
All proceeds will be used to complete the construction of the baseball field house.
Miss and Mister
The Civic League of Mathiston has planned its annual beauty pageant, Miss and Mister Mathiston All Crown Pageant, for Oct. 12.
The pageant will begin at 2 p.m. with the doors opening at noon and it will be held in Bennett Auditorium at Wood College
The attire is formal wear and is from ages 0 up. The pageant will have 10 age divisions and everyone receives a crown (boys receive a gift comparable in price).
The entry fee is $35 and includes all side events except Most Photogenic. Good-luck tickets are included to offset the entry fee if desired. Contestants do not have to live in Mathiston/Webster County to participate.
