From Press Reports
Natchez Trace Parkway officials have announced that repairs on the bridge over U.S. 82 near Mathiston were to begin Wednesday.
The bridge was damaged from the impact of a truck westbound on U.S. 82. DCMS Inc. of Vicksburg is the contractor and work should be completed in early 2014.
Visitors traveling on the parkway will encounter an area of about one-fourth mile where there is one-lane traffic. North and southbound traffic will be using the same lane with traffic flow being controlled by an automated signaling system. Delays should be minimal.
Motorists on U.S. 82 should experience delays only during two short intervals; one when the damaged beam is removed and the other when the new beam is set in place. During these two periods, two-way traffic will be placed on the east-bound lanes.
Both parkway visitors and local traffic on U.S. 82 are encouraged to use caution because of construction traffic around the work area. Short delays should be anticipated.
